Part I – Stories

Let's start with the first item on the menu, shall we?

You reach the "Stories" menu by clicking here:

For those of you not stuck with James back at the Main Menu, you probably end up getting stuck here.  After all, you all come to Jix looking for stories about me and often have to settle for ones about the redhead or Dan and his wood chopping or Doctor Brian or even Regan (Please don’t ask me how to pronounce his name, and I have no comment about the red tissue paper.).

The stories menu is basically All About the Fan Fiction.  This area will provide you links to where you can find stories of all kinds to read.

You click on "stories", and you find this menu pops up before you:

Please do note the attractive back-of-the-head in foreground of the picture on the far right.  Have you ever SEEN such potent male beauty?

Ahem.  I digress.

I will point out that the five menus like the above Stories menu all have links to the other menus.  See where it says home/services/about and fun stuff/news/contact under the rabbits?  Those are the other menus mentioned on the Main Menu.  Well, except news, which takes you to the Sleepyside Sun.  But these links can be found on every menu.

Dani is a genius of epic proportions.  (And keeps you from having to return to that Main Menu graphic and getting stuck in drool-mode again...such a smart girl she is.  Hmm...wonder if she'd like to go to Wimpy's with me.  Hmmm...)

Anyway...

The first picture is of my very pretty friend, Honey, and well...you know who.  *sigh*

Let's click on that, shall we?

Hehehe...I just couldn't help myself.  *grin*

When you click there, this will take you to the author section of the site.  And what is this?  A bee-yoo-ti-ful author page for your delight!!  Vivian made those glorious flowery graphics.  Isn't she talented?

A couple highlights I'd point out:

This is now divided into sections - We've got our current, active authors at the top and the authors on sabbatical listed at the bottom.  All part of the service provided by the Jix team to keep you up to date on who's actively writing right now and who's taking a break from writing (so you can bug them to write more!).

There are also links to the author requirements, both for active authors and for new folks who would like to figure out what you need to do if you want to become an author. Definitely check it out.

In addition to that, you'll find all sorts of other goodies here.

There is:

A link to every Jix author's personal fan fiction page

Information about when they became an author at Jix

(Please note that these dates are good dates to look on the news page for stories, because authors are often sentimental about their personal Jixaversaries and will often post a story in celebration...)

AND

It also has a link to their personal profile, which will tell you information about them.  (Like whether they're a Mart fan...important things like that!)

And the little blurbs after their names will kind of tell you what you're getting into when you go to read their stuff.  So, what you're looking for is "I am a huge Mart fan, and my universe revolves around him."

*sigh*  I know...a guy can dream, can't he?

All the author links will take you away from Jixemitri.  So do not go read stories right now.  You can do that later.

We need to return to the Stories Menu.  You can do that at the bottom of the page.  There's a link there.  (Or you can always hit the "back" button in your browser.  Whatever works for you.)

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I just HAD to get that out.

You will notice that link is NOT from our photo album.  Oh, no.  It is a picture of a rabbit and his mother.  PETER Rabbit.

You may think that Brian, Trixie and I have nightmares from our various dangerous activities involving Trixie's mysteries.  Like being buried alive in an avalanche or being held hostage in our house by crazed auctioneers or being slowly poisoned by eating apple seeds.  No.  We would sleep the sleep of innocent babes were it not for THAT BOOK.

What?  You try reading Peter Rabbit to young Robert for the 348,245,894,058,940th time, and tell me if YOU don't have nightmares of rabbits,  evil farmers named McGregor, and chants of "Read, Read, READ!" being screamed at you in your head.

*shudder*

Anyway...quick.  Click on that and let's get away from the frightening bunny.

Now...I'll bet THIS page looks familiar to you, doesn't it?

This is the Sleepyside Sun.  Where all the news and latest developments in regard to fan fiction can be found.

Jix Authors come here to post mini-descriptions of their latest offerings of fan fiction.  The latest story to be posted will always be at the top.

No...hey!  Come back here.  Do NOT go read that fantastic new story yet.  *grumbling to self*  I knew I shouldn't have taken you guys here first.

Ignore the posts about stories for a moment.  Yes, I know.  It's hard.

Because this has its own section on the main menu, we're going to ignore this page for now.  I promise we'll come back to it later.

Oh, my!  Who could have done this vandalism?

Someone with excellent taste, I think.  hehehe

Anyway...the third and last section on this page takes us to the Circle Writing Projects.  Come.  Click with me and let's see what this CWP business is!

This is the overview/header of the Circle Writing Project page or, as we like to call them "CWPs".  These are the stories Jix and non-Jix authors alike write that have all those weird things in them like yellow rooms, pogo sticks and already-been-chewed (ABC) bubble gum.  What?  Did you think that they all wrote about those things because they had all liked to write about the same weird stuff?

The grand folks at Jix have come up with a CWP FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page which does a much better job of explaining the CWPs than I could ever do.  (Well, I probably could explain them pretty well, but why do I need to bother when they've already done such a good job??)

The purple letters within the text mean that there's a link there.  Click on the FAQ page link to find out all you could ever hope to know and more about Circle Writing Projects.

And now, I'll point out a few other tidbits hiding in this header.  There are actually two versions of CWPs.  Version 1 and Version 2.  Version 1 is the "song" version.  Every CWP in Version 1 required the use of a song in the story.  Version 2 now requires the use of a book title.  Version 1 is completed in that they're not making up any new song CWPs to play with.  But you can always go and write a Mart-centered CWP from one of the song CWPs in Version 1 if you want to.

Version 2 is the currently being updated CWP page, and that's why you get linked to Version 2 rather than Version 1 when you click on the CWP link on the Stories Menu.

And now let's go on to the last link on this page that takes us to somewhere fascinating and interesting...the Circle Writing Challenge page or the CWCs.

This link will take you over to our more serious challenges.  This is where you'll find our Halloween challenges and the blogathons that you're probably familiar with.  But you'll also find some other really cool challenges as well such as a "Choose Your Own Adventure" story that you can add to, the fabulous Trix-e-tron, and a challenge to come up with the most hideous first sentence of a story.  Most of these challenges are ongoing and available for you to participate in whether you are a Jix author or not.

Shouldn't YOU be writing one?

While you consider the myriad of possibilities, let's return to the main CWP page for a few quick pointers.

After you read all the fun stuff in the header, it's time to dig into the CWPs.  Each CWP has its own page with links to the stories of all the authors (Jix and non-Jix), who have submitted their CWP link to Jix for that particular CWP.  Therefore, you can click on all the stories, reading every version of dead flowers, slinkys and tourists taking photographs as often as you wish.

It will also tell you what required elements each CWP has in it so you can look for them while you're reading.

If the author doesn't get you so involved in the story that you forget to look, that is...

The numbered circles on the page as indicated above are the links to the individual CWP pages.

You might notice that there are some "Special Edition" versions.  These look like this:

The Special Edition versions have two distinct differences from the regular ones.  They don't have a "carry over item", i.e. an item that you steal from another CWP, and they are also based on a special event at Jixemitri (usually the yearly Jixaversary).

And a bit of trivia (for I know everyone loves trivia!)...the CWP that has been written about the most is the one with the yellow room.  ;)

Now...back to the Main Menu.  There is a "HOME" link at the bottom of the CWP page that will take you there.

And we'll be back to tackle the next section after a word from our sponsors.
